Armadillo

Armadillos, a native of the deep south, have been working their way northward in a warming climate. Armadillos don't tolerate cold winters, but with climate change they've been able to expand their range. It's a phenomenon that's replicated by countless species of plants and animals, all migrating to higher latitudes as the planet heats up.

I took these photos along the edge of my tallgrass prairie restoration in southeast Kansas. Armadillos were rare or absent here a couple of decades ago, but now they're quite common.
